Shiftronic is the manual shift function of automatic and automated transmissions for Hyundai& #8211; and Kia models. The system was first launched in the late 1990s. It is available today for a large number of models of both brands of cars. Thanks to the Shiftronic function, the driver can better control his car. This is useful when you want to slow down, overtake, go downhill or start on ice. As soon as the Shiftronic mode is no longer required, the transmission operates in automatic mode.

How transmissions with the Shiftronic function work
Special software ensures the operation of the Shiftronic function. Manual operation is possible in two ways: either by moving the shift lever from the “D” position to a special recess and then sliding it to “+” or “–”, or by using the buttons with the same markings mounted on the steering wheel are. A signal is then sent from the gear position sensor or the buttons on the steering wheel to the transmission control unit so that it can give commands to activate a specific gear.

Frequent defects in Shiftronic transmissions
Defects | Transmission |
The valve body electromagnet often fails. | A5HF1 |
Aggressive driving style will damage the planetary gears. | A5HF1; D7UF1 |
The input and output speed sensors don't last long. | A5HF1; A6MF1 |
Aggressive driving style leads to premature wear of the friction linings in the torque converter clutch. | A5SR1; A6MF1 |
The electronic control panel often overheats. | A5SR1 |
If the transmission oil is not changed in time will clog the valve body piping, resulting in oil starvation. | A5SR1; A6MF1 |
Over time, the sun gear bolts will loosen. This causes the gearbox to slip. | A6MF1 |
The solenoid harness fails. | A6MF1 |
The plastic tub of the gearbox is cracking. | A6MF1 |
There are problems with the software. | A8LF1 |
The clutch wears out prematurely. | D7UF1 |
