The manual gearbox is a manual gearbox. This ensures a connection between the engine and the drive wheel, whereby mechanical power is accurately transmitted and converted.
Functions
- It transmits the torque from the engine to the drive wheels;
- It changes the torque parameters (direction and value) .
The working principle
The most important functional elements of the manual transmission are the gears, the connection of which in turn transmits the torque guaranteed. The classic manual transmission is operated by hand. A lever on the center console or on the steering column is used for shifting.
The types
Manual transmissions differ in the number of Gears (4, 5, 6 gears or more). For the production of modern vehicles, manual transmissions with 5 gears are particularly popular.
Depending on the design, there are two types of manual gearboxes:
- Three-shafts (mainly in rear-wheel drive vehicles);
- Dual-shafts (often used to equip front-wheel drive vehicles).
The advantages
- high effectiveness;
- small dimensions and light weight;
- reliable operation.
