EGS is a 6-speed automated gearbox with manual mode , used in Citroën and Peugeot cars. It was introduced in 2007. Its special firmware allows the transmission to adapt to the individual driving style. EGS is pretty reliable. Common deficiencies are bumps and jerks when shifting. This can usually be remedied by reflashing the transmission control unit.
How EGS works
EGS is a two-shaft transmission equipped with a dry single-plate clutch and an electro-hydraulic control module. Various setting options for economical, comfortable or sporty driving are available for the automated mode. The transmission in manual mode is controlled by the shift lever or paddles.
