JTD engines: operating characteristics

JTD is a range of diesel engines from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles equipped with a common rail direct injection system. They are installed in Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo vehicles. In addition, Chrysler, Jeep, Maserati, RAM and other cars are equipped with it. They have been in production since 1997. They were the first with a common rail direct injection system – a joint development by Fiat and Bosch. Some JTD engines were co-developed with General Motors. These all have twin or variable geometry turbochargers. These engines are characterized by high performance, reliability and economical consumption.
