CST (Traction and Stability Control) is a stability control system for Ferrari -models. This optimizes the operation of the anti-lock braking and traction control systems, ABS and the brake force distribution system. This means that the desired direction of travel is retained during manoeuvring. Thanks to the system, the driving dynamics of the car improve when driving on slippery surfaces.
How the CST works
The system compares the vehicle's actual and desired direction of travel to correct the difference between them. The steering wheel angle, the position of the brake and accelerator pedals and the pressure in the braking system are taken into account when determining the driver's performance. The vehicle's actual direction of travel is determined by sensors measuring yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, and wheel speed.
If understeer or oversteer is detected, the CST activates the hydraulic unit of the ABS system. It slows the slipping wheels, restoring traction and direction. Insufficient braking can also limit engine torque.
This technology has several operating modes that determine the extent to which the system intervenes in the vehicle's handling: “Low Grip“ – for a slippery road, “Sport“ – for driving in road conditions with medium and high grip and “Race“ – for racing conditions. The CT OFF“ and “CST OFF“ are used to optimize the vehicle's performance during races and to drive on loose surfaces.
