What does TRACS mean? Description and principle of operation

TRACS is an anti-slip system for Volvo vehicles with four-wheel drive. It optimizes the car's traction on slippery surfaces. This system makes the vehicle more stable when starting, improves acceleration and makes it easier to drive uphill. It works at speeds below 40 km/h.

The functional principle of TRACS

Using the wheel speed sensors, this system determines which wheels start to slip and brakes them. This involves ABS components and the braking mechanism. The result is that more torque is transferred to the opposite wheel, giving it better grip on the road surface. This increases overall traction and helps the car negotiate slippery sections of the road.

The TRACS system is activated automatically when the engine is started. The driver can turn it off using a button on the center console.
