The choice of car color for a new car

One of the most important factors in deciding the color of a vehicle is personal preference. The joy of a new car will certainly increase if the color suits your own taste. Constantly changing color trends also indicate that the choice of color plays a bigger role when buying a car than one would think. In any case, it cannot fail because of the selection, because car manufacturers bring out new car colors every season. Premium manufacturers in particular are offering a wider range of colors than ever before, which can sometimes be livelier. In addition, recent developments in this area allow for greater variety, so that the willingness to experiment can be given free rein. But then it's not that simple. When buying a car, there are more factors to consider when choosing a color than just individual preference.

Which car colors are the most popular right now?

On the streets of The United Kingdom there will probably be predominantly gray and black vehicles – Extravagant colors such as sunny yellow or Toronto red are particularly eye-catching and are not found that often. With neutral tones you are clearly on the stylish side and don't do much wrong. Accordingly, blue as a colorful shade is becoming increasingly popular and is celebrating its comeback. However, the car color white is clearly becoming a trend colour: according to a study by the Association of the Automotive Industry, the color occupies third place, just behind black and grey. Even if personal taste decides in the end, some colors suit certain cars better than others, that seems to be the consensus, at least on the streets: Very large cars are usually kept in more traditional paint finishes such as black – SUVs, for example, probably rarely populate in white traffic, while smaller cars are more often painted in lighter tones. If you like it flashy and want to stand out from the crowd, just do it against the current, provided that the reduction in the vehicle's value is not of personal relevance. Surprisingly, the best car paint against dirt is not primarily black. Quite the contrary, the main argument against choosing black cars is that dirt and dust appear on them more easily. Gray, silver, as well as neutral beige and brown tones, on the other hand, are better suited if you want to drive your car through the car wash a little less often. The popularity of the shades is reflected in a study examining the effect of paint colors on the perceived volume of vehicles. She came to the conclusion that cars in shrill, eye-catching colors are perceived as significantly louder than white or gray ones.

Matt, mother-of-pearl or high-gloss?

But not all colors are the same: automotive groups are creating more and more nuances. Anthracite grey, graphite grey, oxide gray – the list could be extended indefinitely. Once you have finally decided, the effect coating is pending. May it be a pearl, metallic or matt finish? The classic design is undoubtedly a high-gloss finish. The metallic finish also looks very high-quality thanks to its shimmering effect; the car color gray metallic is often chosen, not least because of its insensitivity. For a long time, white vehicles were available without metallic paint, but now white metallic makes the car appear even brighter. The pearl effect finish is a variant of the metallic finish and impresses with its color brilliance and gives the selected nuances a luxurious shimmer. The surcharge for such a paint finish is considerable, but in turn increases the resale value of the car. Cars with a matte finish tend to look extravagant and are often used by automobile companies to display their products at trade fairs. However, they have some disadvantages compared to the cars with a high-gloss finish. Before purchasing a matt finish, vehicle owners should find out about the care instructions; it is advisable to clean matt lacquer models manually with a high-pressure cleaner and not to use the car wash, unless you wash with textile washing materials. If you decide to care by hand, you should definitely follow the vehicle manufacturer's instructions and specifically focus on the matt paint  oriented care are switched. A matt white car will certainly be an eye-catcher. Everyone has to decide and weigh up for themselves whether it is ultimately worth the effort in terms of maintenance and repairs.

Why the choice of vehicle color isn't just dependent on personal taste depends

Last but not least, the choice of color is one of the decisive factors when buying a vehicle, as it can later influence the residual value of the car. A white or gray premium used car will end up paying more than a red or green one – so resale value could go down depending on the color. This is simply due to the popularity of the respective nuances. Therefore, the choice here should be well considered; rare car colors such as purple, green or orange should be avoided if the vehicle is intended to be resold. A color can also inspire at first glance and lead to an impulse purchase that you may later regret. Subsequent painting is also expensive, but there is the possibility of changing the color of the car more cheaply using car foils. In the meantime, new technologies are being developed that make it possible to change the color at the push of a button and thus counteract color weariness that has developed over a long period of time. The automotive group BMW presented the BMW iX at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this year, which can change its color from white to black or gray. It may be a while before this innovation finds its way from the technology fair to the dealer of choice, but it gives a glimpse of what will be possible in this matter – and that the tricky decision about the car color&nbsp ; can be made easier in the future. However, the choice can also be limited by the preference for a certain car brand, because some tones may only be available from certain manufacturers or only intended for special models. In addition, security in the color selection plays a significant role. A lighter nuance can provide more visibility in traffic and thus reduce the risk of accidents. It is often wrongly assumed that the summer heat must be taken into account when choosing a colour. However, the paint color makes no significant difference to the interior temperature, because the heat is mainly absorbed by the surfaces of the glass windows. Here, tinted panes or foils on the windows are more likely to get the problem under control.
The best car color cannot be named in general, it depends entirely on individual taste. If you want to resell your car quickly, you can also indulge in the trend colors and make your favorite shade the most important criterion. Even if this choice is a matter of taste, the above tips should be observed in order to enjoy the vehicle for as long as possible.
