SensoDrive gears: essential information, types, features and technical parameters

SensoDrive is an automatic 5-speed manual gearbox that is between Fitted on certain Citroën and Peugeot models in 2002 and 2009. It combines the functions of automatic and manual transmissions. Under normal conditions, the gear ratio is automatically adjusted to the condition of the road surface. The option to switch to manual mode gives the driver better control of the engine's torque in certain situations.

How SensoDrive works

SensoDrive is based on a conventional manual transmission with gears two waves. The clutch and transmission mechanisms, on the other hand, are electronically controlled by a control unit. As soon as this unit gives a signal, one actuator turns off the clutch, and the second turns on the synchromesh to activate the corresponding gear. In manual mode, the controller receives data about the gear selected by the driver and then sends a corresponding signal to the drives. To change gear, the driver moves the shift lever on the center console to the “+” or “-” position or uses the shift paddles behind the steering wheel.
