CRD engines: what it stands for and what its performance parameters are

CRD engines are direct injection turbocharged diesel engines used in models from Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep are installed. They have been available since 2000. The engines are built by VM Motori, Fiat Powertrain, Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG. They are characterized by their high performance and excellent torque values.

Features of CRD motors

Most CRD engines have a cast iron engine block. Versions with an aluminum block are rather rare. In any case, the cylinder head is made of aluminum. The valve control unit works with the help of a chain or belt. In general, a common rail is used for fuel supply. ECD engines with injection nozzles are an exception. The turbochargers in these engines are usually from Garrett or IHI.
